The Elephant’s Great Escape

A little while ago it snowed, and me and my parents went on a walk, which is where I came up with this short story…

Once there was an elephant who lived with other elephants in a zoo. His mother and father called him Crazy, but no one else knew that, not the zookeeper nor the visitors, who just came and stared at him.

Crazy hated being stared at and always got embarrassed. Then one day a girl came to the zoo and was staring really hard at Crazy; he was so scared he started to trumpet and charge around the pen. The zookeeper who was walking past at the time started to shout and call Crazy horrible things, which made Crazy more embarrassed so he started to trumpet and charge even more, if that was possible! He nearly bumped into his grandmother who was standing eating some leaves, soon everyone nearby started shouting or screaming for him to stop apart from…the girl.

She was cheering him on! “Go free,” she shouted at him happily. Soon Crazy was charging around so much that he broke down the bars holding him and his family captives, and he ran out trumpeting loudly. A little later Crazy found a corner outside the Zoo, in fact it was a little abandoned farm and the Zookeeper was still searching the Zoo! This was when the girl found him. He was crying by himself. She walked over. “Can I ride you?” she asked. “No one wants to ride me!” he said “I’m a nothing.” “Of course you’re something,” she said. “Everyone is something. Look, I don’t have to ride you if you don’t want, but you’ll still be embarrassed and you’ll still be found, and you’ll still have to go back to the Zoo,” she said. “Or I can ride you and we’ll have some fun; for once you’ll have someone to be embarrassed with.” “Ok you can ride me,” he said. “Ok, good. But first I want to give you some words of advice: never focus on what you’re bad at or what you don’t like, just stay you and stay free!” the girl said. And you know what? From then on he did! And of course, they had a great time getting lunch, going swimming, and even watching a movie. Though, Crazy took up rather a few seats, meaning they had to buy two extra tickets. Then they went back to the Zoo and the girl, whose name was Daisy, came and visited the elephant regularly.
